Oklahoma Board of Education suspends Wyandotte Special Education instructor's teaching certificate

WYANDOTTE, Okla. — The Oklahoma State Board of Education suspended the teaching certification of a Special Education Wyandotte Public Schools teacher accused of abusing her adopted disabled child with a taser.

Jennifer Enyart, a Wyandotte Public Schools teacher, was one of 10 teachers statewide whose teaching certificates were suspended at the December 19 state school board meeting.

The nonprofit news outlet NonDoc reported that after returning to open session, they announced the suspension of 10 teaching certificates and moved to send applications to revoke their certificates to hearing officers.

Jennifer Enyart, 44, and her husband Keith Enyart, 52, were federally indicted with child neglect and child abuse in Indian Country, and Jennifer faces an additional charge of assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to do bodily harm for allegedly using a stun gun on their son’s genitals.

Medical reports show several of the child’s injuries were consistent with the use of a “taser or stun gun,” court records show. The medical report concluded the teen’s injuries were “likely the result of child abuse.”

Brad Wade, Wyandotte Schools Superintendent, recommended that the Wyandotte Board of Education terminate Enyart's employment. Enyart has an appeal hearing set for Jan. 6, when she can request she retain her job.

On Thursday, Wade said that the State Board of Education suspension did not cancel Enyart's Jan. 6 due process hearing.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to contact Leslie Bissell, Children’s Advocacy Center of Ottawa County executive director, at (918) 540-1621 if they suspect any child is a victim of abuse.
