Unhoused seek refuge from winter storm at pop-up shelters, warming centers

ST. LOUIS – Emergency shelters in St. Louis City are packed as unhoused members of the community are seeking refuge from the blistering cold of the winter storm.

As the winter weather continues across the bi-state region, vans are transporting the unhoused to pop-up shelters, providing a warm place to sleep for those in need.

Organizers with Peter and Paul Community Services say anyone who comes through their doors will get a warm bed, food, and support.

City leaders are reminding anyone in need of shelter to call 2-1-1 to be connected to available resources. Officials say you can help crews by parking off the street or out of snow routes to give plows space.

Authorities are also encouraging residents to stay home if they can. But if you must travel, give yourself extra time to reach your destination, be patient, drive slowly, and stay alert.
