NORTHEAST OKLAHOMA – The most-read story in 2024 in northeast Oklahoma was the discovery of a missing Delaware County teen found in the bottom of an abandoned well.
Other stories across the Four-State area that were of interest in 2024 included the Jennifer Judd cold case, McDonald County killer Levi King, and a story about video and GPS data that placed Joplin dentist John Joseph at the scene of the fatal crash.
A story about a May EF1 tornado in Joplin also interested readers.
Crime stories in northeast Oklahoma, including resolutions to the cold cases of Peggy Sweeten and Barbara Johnson Willard, made the list. In both of those cases, District Attorney Doug Pewitt said the cases were solved, but because the remains of both women have not been located, the cases remain unresolved. Cold case detectives continue to work leads on recovering the remains.

There was a story about the Afton Fire Chief accused of stealing a Rolex watch, a Miami travel agent under investigation by the State Attorney General for allegedly swindling money from customers, and the seizure of hundreds of marijuana plants from an illegal grow operation.
Other stories in 2024 were the thousands of motorists stranded on the Will Rogers turnpike for hours, a train derailment in Wyandotte, and the strengthing of the state's Open Meeting and Open Records Act.
The financial problems halting work on the Vinita "Disneyland" project rounded out the list of the most-read stories 2024.
