It's a snow day all around the Ozarks! A blanket of snow covered the area overnight with light snow showers ending this morning. Snow flurries will continue through the afternoon.
The overnight snowstorm was an efficient snow producer. Temperatures are running in the upper 20s this morning making this snow nearly ideal for snowballs, sledding, and snowmen.
Springfield has accumulated 3" to 4" snow as of 3 AM Friday. Light snow will continue through about sunrise. Tempertaures today will hover around freezing this afternoon and some snow may begin to melt today, especially on the roads once traffic picks up.
Slushy roads this afternoon will become icy overnight tonight into Saturday morning. Black ice is likely again on Sunday morning.
This weekend will be "warmer" but still below normal with highs in the upper 30s to near 40°. This paired with sunshine on Saturday will make quick work of the snow. Additional flurries are possible on Sunday, but accumulation isn't expected.
Another blast of cold air pushes through later on Sunday and we're well below normal again on Monday. Plan for the same old same old on Monday with temperatures in the upper 20s in th afternoon. We try to turn things around on Tuesday and Wednesday and will be on our way to the 40s by the end of the week.
