KSNF/KODE — A Wyandotte K-9 is laid to rest after lengthy issues with spinal problems.
A social media post announced K-9 Niko's end of watch on Monday.
Wyandotte Police Chief Ronnie Gilmore says the dog had a couple of spinal surgeries and never fully recovered.
Niko made numerous appearances at schools, children's events, and other community events.
One of the most important finds of his career was back in December 2018, when Niko found an endangered elderly man who wandered away from his home during freezing temperatures.
The police dog was involved in 247 deployments, and over 300 arrests between his department and other agencies.
Niko's handler was Officer Jacob Hamblett.
