ST. LOUIS - One of the suspects allegedly involved in the shooting death of CBC student Colin Brown is set to appear in court Thursday.
Donovan Baucom is expected to appear before a judge at the Carnahan Courthouse Thursday. Baucom faces six felony counts: murder-first degree, three counts of armed criminal action , assault-first degree, and unlawful use of a weapon, shooting from a moving vehicle.
While Baucom claims he didn't commit the crime, prosecutors allege otherwise. The attorney representing Baucom in court argues for his release, saying there was no evidence of motive or premeditation.
A court document says 28-year-old Baucom claims to have been driving as his cousin Garrett Jordan was shooting at another driver on the interstate, stemming from an incident on that nearby side street.
An errant bullet struck Brown as his father was driving him home from a hockey game along Interstate 55 in south St. Louis on Nov. 23. Brown died in a hospital days later.
Multiple police and FBI raids on a side street in that neighborhood helped put together an evidence trail. It led them to Baucom and his cousin, 26-year-old Garrett Jordan, who is also accused of murder in the case.
Jordan was charged with Brown's murder 20 days after the shooting, following the St. Louis Metropolitan Police's cooperation with several agencies, including the FBI and Illinois State Police. Brown died Nov. 27, and his organs went to save the lives of four other people, officials said.
Per Baucom's charging documents, he admitted to "driving the Audi during the shooting" and stated that "Jordan fired shots during the shooting with a rifle." Court documents say authorities recovered 20 shell casings from an I-55 on the night of the shooting, including casings from a rifle.
Multiple suspects face drug and weapons charges in the case. So far, only Baucom and Jordan are charged with murder. Baucom will be seen at the Carnahan Courthouse at 1 p.m., where it'll be decided if he'll be held in custody while his case is pending.
