Steps to take if you lose power during a winter storm

CRAWFORD COUNTY, Kan. — Crawford County officials are providing tips if your power goes out in the winter storm.

They recommend keeping freezers and refrigerators closed and ensuring you have a backup plan for refrigerating medicines and powering medical devices.

If an outdoor generator is being used, make sure it's at least 20 feet away from doors and windows.

As for appliances, make sure to unplug them to avoid damage from electrical surges.

Officials also remind us to not use a gas stove to heat the home.

Importantly, it's recommended to keep mobile phones and electronic equipment charged before a power outage.
