Report: Childcare shortage holding back growth for Missouri manufacturers

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - A new report from the Missouri Chamber of Commerce shows that the state ranks 28th in the country when it comes to manufacturing competitiveness.

Missouri employs around 300,000 manufacturers, but ranks behind several of its neighbors, including Tennessee and Kentucky.

Public safety and childcare are among the industry's main concerns. Missouri counties continue to face a significant shortage of childcare providers, with 94 of the state's 114 counties classified as childcare deserts. The ongoing issue is not only affecting families, but also impacting state manufacturers.

With the upcoming legislative session around the corner, the Missouri Chamber of Commerce is asking lawmakers to focus on childcare and public safety to help the state grow.
