FERGUSON, Mo. – Hundreds of people gathered Wednesday for a chilly motorcycle ride in Ferguson for a cause.

"That is part of our mission; is to what we call, ‘Do good in the hood.’ So, for us to come together as a community," Darren Lee, National Association of Buffalo Soldiers and Troopers St. Louis chapter president, said.

Lee is spearheading the annual polar bear ride. The motorcycles filling the streets were gathering to support the five young girls who lost their mother, Ashley Hogan, on Christmas Eve.

"It is phenomenal; it is humbling; it is a sight to behold to have at least 200-plus motorcycle riders out here to help us in this community," Ferguson Mayor Ella Jones said.

The rider's first stop was to drop off a check for Hogan's family, where officers and former classmates collected donations.

"Ashley was real, vibrant who loved her children. They discovered that night she had presents for her daughters in her trunk. So, it is just a tragedy on all levels," Officer Andrae Spraggins, Ferguson Police Department, said.

The next stop was the Bikers Corner bar, where the motorcycle clubs are collecting clothing for Hogan's five girls through Saturday. Lee said he's grateful to lead this year's ride.

"This is what we do; we come together as a whole. All of the motorcycle clubs get together to make sure that the community, if they need something, we're there for them," Lee said.
