Over 1,700 drivers left stranded on Missouri roadways during winter storm: MSHP

Winter storm Blair brought a mixture of thick ice and snow across Missouri, causing hundreds of car crashes and thousands of drivers stranded on roadways over the weekend, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

MISSOURI -- Winter storm Blair brought a mixture of thick ice and snow across Missouri, causing hundreds of car crashes and thousands of drivers stranded on roadways over the weekend, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

MSHP shared on Facebook they received 3,134 calls for service between January 4 at 12 p.m. through January 6 at 3 p.m.

MSHP said they responded to 1,788 drivers left stranded on Missouri's roadways and 436 car crashes due to the storm. Additionally, MSHP reported 38 injuries from those car crashes and one fatality.

The fatality reported occurred in Jackson County near Kansas City, Missouri, when a 61-year-old Public Works employee was struck and killed by a dump truck after it had slid on the roadway, hitting him and a nearby parked vehicle.
