MIAMI, Okla. — The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation released the name of the Miami man fatally shot by a Miami Police officer after he rushed toward the officers with a large metal spike.
Jason Wilkins, 49, was transported to a local hospital, where he later passed away from his injuries.
No one else was injured during the shooting, which is still under investigation, said Hunter McKee, OSBI spokesman.
The fatal shooting happened before 4 p.m., near C Street Southeast and First Avenue Southeast.
Officers say they commanded Wilkins to drop his weapon and that's when they say he rushed towards one of the officers, resulting in an officer-involved shooting, he said.
Melinda Stotts, Miami spokesperson, said the officer involved in the shooting is on paid administrative leave during the investigation.
