Lingering road impacts can be expected with frigid weather hanging on through Wednesday. Despite the cold, the sun will work on snow and sleet-covered roads with gradual improvements as each day passes. Roads on the north side of hills or roads that remain in the shade will likely hold onto the winter coating and will make for sneaky slick spots in the days to come.
The snow machine has been slow to wind down with lingering snow showers and flurries throughout the day. There's been little to no additional accumulation and the flurries will gradually end overnight.
Lingering clouds overnight will help keep temperatures from bottoming out, but it will still be very cold with lows in the teens with wind chills in the single digits.
Clouds will gradually thin out by Tuesday afternoon with clear and frigid weather sticking around through Thursday morning.
We should climb above freezing again on Thursday, but it will be a race against cloud cover as increasing clouds try to hamper the warm-up.
The clouds will be in advance of a southern winter storm threat that will hit areas from Texas through the South Thursday through Friday. The Ozarks will be on the northern edge of this snow threat. It may be a battle against dry air in regard to snow accumulations with only light amounts expected closer to Central Missouri. Amounts look more significant south of the state line. Please stay up to date on the possibly upcoming winter storm, especially if you're traveling south.
