Miami Police officer-involved shooting under investigation

MIAMI, Okla. — Miami city spokeswoman Melinda Stotts confirmed there has been an officer-involved shooting involving a Miami Police officer on Friday evening.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate the shooting.

Police evidence markers were placed in front of the residence at 111 C St. SE.

Miami’s Interim Police Chief Todd Hicks said two separate 911 calls came into the Emergency Operations Center at 3:55 p.m. of an armed male subject under the influence attempting to break into an apartment at a complex on C SE Street, according to a statement released by city officials.

Three Miami Police Officers arrived on the scene and made contact in the apartment complex with the male subject, who they say was carrying a weapon. According to Hicks, it is believed the subject appeared to be under the influence of narcotics and failed to respond to the officers’ repeated commands, shots were fired, and the subject was injured.

Emergency Services were called to the scene, and the subject was transported to the Emergency Room of Integris Hospital and later succumbed to his injuries.

The names of the Miami police officers and the victim were not released.

The Ottawa County District Attorney and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation were notified for further investigation.
