ST. LOUIS - The relationship between St. Louis and the Kansas City Chiefs takes on a new twist: A wearable coin pendant pairs the Chiefs logo with the Gateway Arch.
Available for sale on GLD.com, the pendant is crafted from 18K yellow gold and comes attached to a 5mm Cuban chain in the same finish.
The pendant features the Kansas City Chiefs logo beneath the Gateway Arch. It also shows a skyline that appears to more closely resemble Kansas City than St. Louis, in addition to engravings of birds and clouds for added detail.
FOX 2 reached out to GLD.com to learn more about the inspiration behind the pendant. A company spokesperson sent the following statement:
"The inspiration behind this piece was to bring together two rival towns under the banner of one team—especially following the Rams' return to Los Angeles. While we recognize that some people may never cheer for either city - particularly given the history of the 1985 World Series - we’ve discovered a lot of enthusiasm for the unification of the state among those who appreciate the pendant. At the very least, it serves as a great conversation starter within our community."
Nearly a decade has passed since the Chiefs became Missouri's only NFL team. The Rams franchise relocated from St. Louis to Los Angeles in January 2016.
Since then, the Chiefs have been a popular team for some St. Louisans craving professional football. Winning three Super Bowls and building their team around strong personalities like Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Andy Reid has helped their case.
That said, perceptions of the Chiefs vary among St. Louis fans. While some have embraced Chiefs culture wholeheartedly, others remain indifferent or reluctant to back them solely because of Missouri and I-70 ties.
And that's not the only nuance in the St. Louis-Kansas City sports dynamic. The annual Cardinals-Royals matchups often spark spiritied head-to-head rivalries, while the two sides of the state seemingly unify behind Mizzou sports.
The Chiefs will open their 2025 playoff journey with a divisional round matchup at home against the Houston Texans. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. CT Saturday at Arrowhead Stadium. ESPN will carry the game broadcast.
