JOPLIN, Mo. — We're winding down the hours until 2025, and many folks will celebrate with a literal bang.
In Joplin, Black Market Fireworks officials say this is their second busiest time of year behind the 4th of July. Many of their shoppers are looking for something that creates an overhead light show and a whole lot of noise. But others concentrate on ground-based fireworks. Either way, people are buying.
"It is a tradition throughout our country. I think it's a great tradition to have, you know, it symbolizes a great many things—the ushering of the new in and saying goodbye to the old," said Dean Collins, Black Market Fireworks manager.
But keep in mind, the rules involving fireworks are different depending on where you live. For instance, in Joplin—much like the Fourth—no Chinese lanterns and no bottle rockets. Also, they can't be set on public property, streets, or in city parks—only on private property with the owner's permission.
Always a safe bet to check with your local authorities.
