Family dispute over finances turns deadly in St. Louis County, man charged
A man accused of fatally shooting his brother Friday evening, allegedly following an argument over financial matters, is now behind bars.
ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - A man accused of fatally shooting his brother Friday evening, allegedly following an argument over financial matters, is now behind bars.
The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office has charged Tyrone Johnson, 28, with first-degree murder and armed criminal action amid the investigation.
The St. Louis County Police Department has identified the victim as Gerrick Fortenberry, 30. He has also been identified as Johnson's brother.
Investigators say Fortenberry was fatally shot at a home in the 1200 block of Laire Drive around 9 p.m. Friday.
According to a probable cause statement obtained by FOX 2, Johnson and Fortenberry were "arguing over financial matters" throughout the night. One witness observed Fortenberry near the front of the house and heard gunshots after that.
The witness then saw Fortenberry unconscious and bleeding on the ground while Johnson drove away from the scene, per the probable cause statement.
Johnson was located an hour later with a weapon and promptly arrested. When questioned by police, he admitted to being present at the home when his brother was shot.
