CLEORA, Okla. - Cleora Public School District voters are being asked to pass a no-tax bond earmarked for the construction of additional classroom space.
A special election is set for Jan. 14.
Recently, the school conducted a student growth study looking at the past ten years and discovered the school experienced a growth of almost 50% during that time, according to the school's website. This has led to overcrowding and larger class sizes.
If the $6.13 million bond passes, the 10,000-square-foot extension will hold classroom space, multi-purpose learning spaces, a larger cafeteria/kitchen area, and remodeled space for additional classrooms.
Cleora School was awarded a National Blue Ribbon School Award for excellence in high performance. Only three other Oklahoma schools were chosen for this award, and only 353 schools were selected across the United States.
Ranked as the top elementary and middle school in Oklahoma and the top 1% in the country.
According to the Oklahoma State Report Card, the rural Delaware County school has 162 students from pre-kindergarten through the eighth grade and scored an overall A for the 2023-2024 school year.
