ST. LOUIS - A St. Louis County grand jury decided not to proceed with any charges against St. Louis County Clerk Diann Valenti Friday regarding a case of nepotism coverup in the county.

Prosecuting Attorney Wesley Bell announced Dec. 26 that his office requested a permanent judgment of quo warranto against County Councilman Dennis Hancock, in addition for Hancock to be ousted from his position as county councilman.

During a news conference, Bell stated that Hancock hired his stepdaughter for a county position, violating Missouri’s constitutional rules against nepotism. Hancock is also accused of orchestrating a cover-up after the nepotism claim was first challenged in August.

Additionally, Valenti was mentioned in court documents, accusing her of knowingly or unknowingly participating in coverup efforts.

Chris King, spokesperson for the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, released the following statement:

"Ms. Valenti was interviewed by police. Based upon that and a review of all of the evidence, this office will not be proceeding with charges."
